Abstract

Currently, public cars on the road generally have been using fossil fuels as main energy supply which is non-renewable and harmful for the environment as well as its availability has nearly finish. This require new invention that can be obtained through efforts and innovations. The main choice is electrical energy. Furthermore, Indonesia as world's largest nickel producers can be potentially develop its own batteries company to supports the development of electric cars. Thus, near future the electric cars will replace conventional ones. In this study, a thorough investigation on the performance of the electric motor as main driver for the car has been carefully investigated. The results shows that the speed, torque, mechanical power and efficiency of the electric motor are proportional to the total loads. For mechanical power at 15 kg of loading, the power reaches 2263.4 watts for electric motors and 2272.9 watts for motors with a differential. Meanwhile, the efficiency achieved with 5 kg loading were 90.5% and 80.2% for without and with a differential respectively. Morever, obtaining more comprehensive design, is necessary to carry out further study to make the prototype of the electric car of Faculty of Engineering, University of Mataram be ready to marketplace.
